This is why the first important step in order not to pollute our seas is to become a plastic-free hotel, by eliminating a CONSIDERABLE PART of plastic single-use and disposable products. At Hilton Sorrento Palace, this philosophy involves above all the areas dedicated to food service, like the bars and restaurants, where disposable products have been replaced by 100% biodegradable and compostable materials as alternatives to plastic.
Plastic straws have been replaced by paper, by PLA (organic, compostable plastic), and by entirely edible straws. Disposable cups have been replaced by corn starch based PLA cups, which are 100% biodegradable and compostable, while plastic coffee cups have been replaced with paper. Cocktail stirrers have also been replaced with completely natural and reusable bamboo stirrers.
And those who like to relax by poolside sipping a cocktail or smoothie will find, at Bar Pagoda, cups in Tritan (RPET, a hard, recycled plastic, which can be washed and reused) in place of disposable cups, and disposable plastic plates and cutlery replaced with ones in cellulose pulp, a biodegradable and compostable material.
Personalized thermal water bottles
Another original idea at Hilton Sorrento Palace to dispose of plastic products is that of replacing classic water bottles with customized bottles with the “Save the Planet” logo, which can be purchased at Bar Pagoda. Hotel guests and employees can have a free water refill thanks to a special dispenser located behind the bar’s counter. A creative and ecological way to discourage the purchase and use of plastic bottles which would end up becoming waste harmful to the environment.
A more careful separate collection
In addition to eliminating and replacing disposable plastic products, Hilton Sorrento Palace is engaged in raising staff members’ awareness in carrying out a more targeted and productive separate collection, providing containers for separating waste in many areas of the hotel.
